Belinda Burnside
Traditional osteopath, naturopath and herbalist.
What is Traditional Osteopathy? It is a hands-on therapy that guides the body back to health. Noticeable, lasting improvement in symptoms can occur after just one or two treatments.
Traditional osteopathy can also play a significant role in pain management of arthritic conditions, and when used in conjunction with medical treatment, can be of value in reducing the severity of symptoms in conditions such as asthma, menstrual dysfunction and chronic fatigue.
The most common complaints for which people come to see an osteopath are:
- back and neck pain
- sciatica
- headaches
- joint pain
- repetitive strain
- sports injuries
Traditional osteopaths are trained to feel (palpate) the living anatomy of the body – muscles, tendons, joints, fascia, ligaments and even organs. The whole body is treated, not just the part that is in pain.
Belinda Burnside did her training in Australia and is therefore not a physician. To become a registered osteopath in Australia, Belinda completed five years of full-time study in Osteopathic Manual Therapy at university. She also draws from her ancestry – her great-grandmother was a South Pacific Island medicine woman who lived to be 110 years old. Belinda learned herbal medicine from her great-grandmother and aunt, then obtained formal qualifications in a Bachelor of Applied Science in Naturopathy and a Diploma of Herbal Medicine. She integrates her knowledge of these holistic sciences into her health practice at BodyWorks.
